MIDLAND, MI - COMMUNITY DESCRIPTION AND INFORMATION

The Midland community provides the amenities of big city life with all the charm and security of a mid-sized community. Light traffic, a healthy economy, moderate cost of living, impressive housing stocks, strong educational systems, and easy access to big-city attractions put Midland on Bizjournal's 2008 list of the top "dreamtowns" in America.

Downtown Midland received a Michigan Main Street designation in 2005, one of only four communities in the state to receive the recognition that year. The Main Street program, part of Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm's Cool Cities Initiative, resulted in an increased focus on developing a long-term, sustainable business district and enhancing the downtown's economic position. Community leaders continue to look at ways to make the downtown area an exciting multi-use destination for housing, business offices, shops, restaurants, and entertainment.

Mid-Michigan's only minor league baseball team, the Great Lakes Loons, landed in the community in April 2007. The 5,500-seat Dow Diamond stadium near downtown Midland is a great place for games during the warmer months and special events all year 'round. And for the skater in you, Midland provides three indoor ice-skating rinks at its 107,000-square-foot Midland Civic Arena, which opened in September 2005.
